Hi! I'm Rosie!

I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio, failing miserably at anything involving a smidge of athleticism. I took a slew of art classes in high school, however, I wasn’t sure I wanted a career in the arts until I abandoned my college tour for those interested in majoring in English and jumped over to the tour meant for graphic design majors. I pursued a degree in graphic design at the University of Cincinnati and am now eternally grateful to Past Rosie (and my tolerant mother) for changing her college tour plans at the last minute.

After the great recession of 2008, I followed my then-fiance-now-husband to Providence, Rhode Island as he began his career and I started to hunt for mine. After a long and snowy job search, I started working within the marketing department of a safety company and eventually left to create work for a small design agency. Given more freedom with my work, I grew my knowledge base and skill set and brought them along with me when we moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2014.

Over the next few years, my husband and I doubled the size of our family with two wonderful kids. I shifted to working for a local healthcare marketing firm, meeting some lovely and supportive folks along the way. It was here that I really honed in on what healthcare and nonprofits are looking for and expanded my understanding of their audience. Unfortunately, I returned to work part-time after having my second child and was laid off, along with all of the other part-time employees. I took some time off then to spend with my children, which turned out to be more time than I had anticipated as COVID-19 hit and I found myself homeschooling my kindergartener during the day and contracting for another healthcare marketing agency at night.

Throughout my design career, I had always been interested in drawing and art, but frequently found myself frustrated with the results. I was reluctant to invest any more into the hobby, but in 2022 I received a generous gift card and decided to purchase myself a set of gouache, brushes, and a sketchbook.

Dear reader, I want you to know - I was not “good” (good being defined as being able to execute my art to the level I wanted). However, painting had lit a fire in me and I was excited to explore new mediums, techniques, and make many, many, many mistakes. It was only through continuous practice and study that I was able to cultivate a style that I felt aligned with my taste level.

In 2024, another generous Christmas gift card meant new art supplies, so I purchased a set of vinyl emulsion paint called Flashe, as well as my first canvas. Though I had enjoyed the various mediums I had tried in the past, I understood how Thor must have felt when he first held Mjolnir. That may be a bit dramatic, but the point is, I had found a medium I really resonated with and enjoyed using.

I am incredibly lucky that I get to pursue both design and art as a career. I enjoy crafting identities, websites, presentations, and illustrations as much as I enjoy mixing the perfect hue or painting the leaves of an autumn tree. I am deeply invested in all facets of my work, and love paying close attention to details and solving difficult problems.

I spend my free time hiking, playing video games, nerding out over board games, and living a wonderful life with my high school sweetheart husband, our two kids, and two dogs.
